HOMOLOGATED EXHAUST SYSTEM FEATURING
INTEGRATED FLAPS!
The most sportive model offered by Porsche is the GT2. This car exhibits Porsche’s advanced technology, which is demonstrated in its ceramic composite brakes, maximum engine power with twin turbines and variable turbine geometry, but mainly, in its uncompromising lightweight components. The 997 GT2 is the first Porsche and also the first serial car which is originally equipped with a titanium exhaust system.
Because of comfort, durability and strict noise requirements regarding the exhaust system, some kind of compromise had to be made. This was reason enough for us to develop a real “sport-exhaust version” for this super sports car. Our requirements were very simple: lighter, more powerful and better sounding exhaust system. Two Emitec hiflow 100 cpsi metallic cats, larger tube diameters, measuring not 55, but 60 mm, reduced the power-consuming backpressure by more than 50 %. This resulted in a power increase of 40.7 HP, a torque increase of 73.6 Nm and weight savings of 5.4 kg, compared to the stock system.

Two turbo chargers, two air intercoolers considerably increase the weight of the Porsche 997 Turbo engine in comparison to the atmospheric model.The lighter exhaust system unburdens the rear end and centralizes the weight in a more balanced manner. The limit range of the vehicle adjusts upwards and so a higher transverse acceleration is possible. The combination of improved power to weight ratio (through an increased efficiency of 29 HP), torque progression by 40 Nm, and the positive effects in connection with driving dynamics enhance the performance of the Turbo distinctively. Furthermore, we thought it important to improve the sound. The turbines of the Turbo strongly absorb the sound of the engine, but we were able could compensate for it. We were able to add the otherwise quiet Turbo a sonorous and aggressive sound impression without disadvantages in the daily use.

The Akrapovic Evolution Complete System is based on the same layout as the original exhaust system of the GT3 with valve control. A newly developed exhaust manifold with 100 cpsi sports catalyst guarantees an increase in power and torque, as do the newly developed and optimized pre mufflers. But the real plus of this exhaust system is the weight reduction of 15.5 kg, while it maintains the original layout and functionality of the exhaust caps.
The weight distribution of the vehicle is improved considerably, because of that weight reduction in the area behind the engine and the rear axle, which has a positive effect on the handling. The limit range of the vehicle adjusts upwards and so a higher transverse acceleration is possible. The combination of improved power to weight ratio (through an increased efficiency of 12 HP), torque progression by 14 Nm, and the positive effects in connection with driving dynamics enhance the performance of the GT3 distinctively. The sound impression in this configuration is somewhat more voluminous and with opened caps way more aggressive than in the original version.

Because of the achieved weight reduction of 29 kg in the most critical area of the Porsche 911, behind the engine and rear axle, the weight distribution of the car is noticeably improved, which also enables better handling. The limit range of the car increased and higher side acceleration is now possible. The performance of the GT3 will clearly be increased by the combination of better power/weight ratio, the increase of torque for about 23 Nm and much better handling. Sound characteristics of this configuration are much more aggressive, but still allowed by Porsche Sports Cup regulations.

The Akrapovic Sports Cup exhaust system is based on the Porsche Sports Cup rules, which means retaining the original exhaust manifold with integrated catalysts. We therefore developed a performance and weight optimized titanium end muffler with appropriate link pipes as the connecting piece to the manifold. This kind of construction reduces the weight by 21 kg in comparison to the original exhaust system.
